Cornopteris crenulatoserrulata
(Makino) Nakai
Serrated-leaf Fern
Athyriaceae
Cornopteris crenulatoserrulata is a species of fern in the family Athyriaceae. It is native to northeastern China, eastern Russia, Korea, and Japan.
Description
Cornopteris crenulatoserrulata is a terrestrial, medium-sized plant. Rhizomes are stout, creeping, with large brown ovate-lanceolate scales. Fronds have a long stipe, 40 to 60 cm, stout and scaly at the base. Leaves are bipinnate-pinnatifid, deltoid to oblong, 25 to 70 cm long and 20 to 60 cm and wide. Bases are broadly wedge-shaped, while the tip of the leaf has a long point. Fronds have 10 to 15 pairs of leaflets. The leaflets are nearly opposite, broadly lanceolate to oblong. Lower leaflets are longer and have short stalks, 10 to 32 cm long and 4 to 8 cm wide, with slightly narrowed at the base, also long-tipped. Upper leaflets are smaller, lanceolate, more alternate, with 8 to 20 pairs of lanceolate subleaflets, which themselves are 1 to 4 cm long and 5 to 15 mm wide. Subleaflets have scalloped edges, with rounded tips. Sori are roughly round or elliptic, and lack indusia (Wu et al. 2013).
